Ness' Women's special Recruitment Drive 'Venus Calling' featured in the Times of India, Hyderabad, India
Helping change the impression of Women’s Day tokenism
Hyderabad: International Women's Day (IWD) on March 8 is usually marked by pink dress codes, cake cutting ceremonies and cheesy mail exchanges, but there are some trying to do away with the ‘Women’s Day’ tokenism and instead do something meaningful that actually touches the lives of their female employees.
Ness Technologies and SAP Labs India are rolling out women’s recruitment drives to mark the occasion this year. Ness has christened its women’s recruitment drive ‘Venus Calling’, which was held between March 10-14 and offered women with experience in IT the opportunity to walk in for interviews at the company’s Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bangalore offices.
The Young COWE (Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs) held a ‘Women For Work’ career and job fair exclusively for women in the city, where more than 50 companies such as CA Technologies, Oracle, Honeywell, Emobitise and Sree Infotech participated.
The first National Women's Day was observed in the United States in 1909, to commemorate the garment workers' strike in New York, where women had protested against poor working conditions and demanded shorter work hours, better pay and voting rights. Many things have changed in the intervening years, and a new set of challenges have cropped up for women at the workplace. Apart from safety concerns, high stress levels are also taking their toll on the health and well-being of women staff.
Many firms are hosting health check-up camps as well as healthcare workshops to mark International Women's Day (IWD). Cognizant has planned a slew of health and safety awareness campaigns across its facilities that will include special sessions on women’s health issues and work-life balance at its Hyderabad office.
