Private cloud: Is the term just being used a fig leaf?
Moshe Kranc, the Chief Technology Officer of Ness SES, has written an article for ItProPortal in which he describes confusion he has observed in the financial sector regarding shared infrastructure in the cloud. He states that many organizations don’t realize the benefits of a true private cloud.
In the article, ‘Private cloud: Is the term just being used a fig leaf?’, he not only defines private cloud, but also analyzes why the terminology gets confused so often, even by experts. He writes, “A private cloud has all the benefits of a public cloud (flexibility, elasticity, scalability, high availability, self-service operation), with none of the security issues, because the cloud is behind the enterprise’s firewall. The chief issue with private cloud is the learning curve required to install and operate it. OpenStack engineers can be hard to find, and the OpenStack technologies take time to master.”
He also talks about newer technologies that have come to the market that make public cloud systems far safer through end-to-end encryption, full data masking, and complete multi-tenant isolation.
